

Professional Biography, Rob McGill
Executive Director, Academics
Plus Charter School
As executive director of Academics Plus Charter School in Maumelle, Ark., the state’s first charter school, Rob McGill is charged with ensuring the educational needs of close to 600 students in kindergarten through 12th grade and overseeing a staff of over 50. It’s a lofty responsibility but one for which he is well prepared.
Prior to joining Academics Plus in July, 2010, Mr. McGill served for 15 months as acting superintendent of the Pulaski County Special School District (PCSSD), the third-largest school district in Arkansas with 18,000 students. He also was the principal of PCSSD’s Pine Forest Elementary School in Maumelle. He began his career in education in 1993 as an elementary school teacher and has worked as an assistant principal and principal at several other PCSSD schools.
Mr. McGill credits his strong leadership skills not only to his experience in school administration, but also to his tenure in the Arkansas National Guard. From 1990 to 1991, Mr. McGill was deployed in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm, serving in Ft. Sill, Okla., Saudi Arabia and Iraq, and more recently, from 2003 to 2005, he was deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, serving in Ft. Hood, Texas, Kuwait and Iraq. He retired from the Guard as lieutenant colonel, after having commanded the 39th Brigade Support Battalion, where he was commander of 10 armories and 800 soldiers throughout Arkansas from 2005 to 2007.
Mr. McGill holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from the University of Central Arkansas and a Master of Science in Elementary School Administration from Henderson State University. He is certified as a superintendent and elementary school principal.
Born in Arkadelphia, Ark., Mr. McGill is an avid outdoorsman. He and his wife, Pam, have two sons, Caleb, 8, and Christian, 4.
